May 2026 | Keep Payson Clean

There’s something powerful that happens when you step outside, get your hands a little dirty, and do something good alongside other people.

That’s what Hike & Serve is all about.

It’s not just picking up trash. It’s not just getting outside. It’s not just “another event. ”It’s a way for us to reconnect—to our town, to each other, to ourselves, and to the creator of it all.

At Keep Payson Clean, we believe that when people come together with a shared purpose, something bigger starts to happen. You feel it. The conversations are better. The smiles are real. The work matters.

And the best part? Science backs it up.

Why This Matters (More Than You Think)

1. Sunlight boosts your mood naturally

Getting outside for just 20–30 minutes helps your body produce serotonin—the chemical that stabilizes mood and promotes feelings of well-being. Translation: you feel better, clearer, lighter.

2. Being in community reduces stress and anxiety

Studies show that social connection is one of the strongest predictors of mental health. When we show up together—even for something simple like a cleanup—we’re building something deeper than we realize.

3. Serving others increases happiness

Acts of service trigger the release of dopamine (your brain’s “feel good” chemical). That’s why you leave a cleanup feeling accomplished and energized instead of drained.

4. Movement + nature = mental reset

Walking trails, being near water, and moving your body lowers cortisol (stress hormone levels). It’s like hitting a reset button without needing a screen.

5. Purpose creates momentum in life

When you do something that matters—even something small—you start to carry that energy into other areas of your life. Service builds discipline, confidence, and direction.

What This Looks Like in Payson

For us, this isn’t theory—it’s happening right here across our town.

Keep Payson Clean exists to be the glue. We bring people together to take care of the place we all call home. Whether it’s a trail, a park, or a lake—we show up, we clean up, and we build something meaningful while we do it.

This May, we’re doing it again:

  • Event Center Cleanup - 5/10

  • Rumsey Park Hike & Serve - 5/17

  • Water Wheel Swim N Clean - 5/24

  • Green Valley Park Lake Walk N Clean - 5/31

Every Sunday we meet at 1:30PM. Simple as that.

You don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need experience. You just need to show up.

The Bigger Picture

We’re not just cleaning up trash.

We’re building a culture.

A culture where people take pride in where they live. Where kids grow up seeing what it looks like to serve. Where neighbors become friends. Where our town feels different—not because someone told us it should, but because we decided to make it that way.

That’s Keep Payson Clean puts on the Hike & Serve, to create a healthier, kinder, connected community that raises the quality of life for everyone in Payson, AZ and beyond.

And if you’ve been thinking about coming out… this is your sign.

Let’s take care of this place together.
